Drone racing
FPV drone racing (where FPV stands for First Person Video) is a sport where participants control drones equipped with cameras while wearing head-mounted displays showing the live stream camera feed from the drones. The goal is to complete a set course as quickly as possible.
The term, Rotorcross, was first coined in New Zealand, though the term FPV Drone Racing stems from hobby enthusiasts creating camera based drones in late 2014.
〔(Kiwi drone racers get ahead of the competition ). 3 News. Retrieved June 28, 2015.〕
Rotorcross has the potential to become a full Projected Virtual Reality (PVR) sport when people eventually add 360-degree spherical cameras to drones. However the wireless bandwidth demands (not to mention weight and battery constraints) for live streaming such footage currently preclude this capability.
With advancements in technology FPV Drone Racing has become popularized and widely accepted amongst all RC enthusiasts. Companies such as (Hyperion Ltd. ) have made huge contributions to the FPV community by developing and marketing a FPV racing multicopter that is capable to be "ready-to-fly" from the box. The (Hyperion Vengeance 280 FPV Racer ) is the first FPV racer of 250-class to utilize a gimbal camera for optimal forward visibility. This self-leveling camera technology is much superior than standard FPV racers that offer a fixed-angle view camera as all viewing tends to be of the ground.
FPV racing leagues are groups that create regulations and rules to offer a fair race amongst its pilots. One of the more popular is (MultiGP ). Here a racer can sign up and find local chapters. They can then sign up and participate in races that the chapter hosts, and compete for points. Each event is structured, and software determine what machine can fly in certain classes to make it completely fair. Rotorcross is become the Drone racing's need for speed.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.dronetrac.net/blog/2015/11/10/drone-racing-technologys-need-for-speed )〕 Leagues like MultiGP are becoming the future of organized rotorcross.
